Alright… I guess I need to put my intro here as a Dollsbook OG Founder, along with @rainking.

The short of it is, the “other forum” was getting uneasy of me pointing out their inconsistent favoritism to certain members, giving admin privileges to people who just barely passed their 5-post “sniff test”, and alienating long-time members like me, who made that place enjoyable, yet silencing valid concerns and grievances raised to their admins. It felt like I gave them all yet received nothing in return. I told them their rules and TOC is, in truth, vague and would probably be used against them if they were sued in a court of law. I had a lawyer friend review them, and she said, “whoever runs this site should have ran this by their lawyers before posting this! This is basically nothing more than just a hobbled together rambling of what to expect of the site’s owner if you don’t kowtow to him! If I were to represent you in a civil suit against that site, I would petition the court to render those invalid as evidence! There are NO ways to express grievances, and the part of ‘back it up with truth’ NEEDS to have a point of contact if such an event arises! And it MUST be a physical address. Email is not sufficient.” She even told them that. The response? “Whatever, lady. Are you REALLY a lawyer?” (Yes, licensed by the Tarrant County Bar Association. Her signature in her email said so. It’s a felony to misrepresent your attorney credentials in Texas.)

I digress, I helped RainKing get hooked up with @monamourtoujours, who in turn helped him get hooked up with @dbevadmin. But after RainKing started to see what I was seeing, that only approved products may be showcased on there, and with very vague and judiciously enforced upon the ones they don’t like or are “causing a problem”, for which I was one of them, and they started to believe that Rainy and I were colluding against them, for reasons they could not really allege, Rainy told me that he has info from a *outside* vendor on that site about a fledgling social media site for dolls built on top of WordPress.

Me being a genius on WordPress, I was instantly brought on board. And agreement was made, and  the domain DNS from @masterdollsbook was transferred to RainKing, and hosting  was purchased, and work got started.  Oh, and @masterdollsbook has worked his behind off to get this off the ground as well and deserves mad props!

The site was in beta in September 2018, went live a bit later than anticipated, I would say, went live on November 1, 2018, when we were satisfied that the bugs and kinks were worked out.

Being an “OG DB Member”, which I’m proud to be, along with @daphnetilbrook, who is actually #2, I’m really #3… Semantics aside, we wanted to make this place that the other place used to be. And that vision is being realized every day. It’s sometimes a difficult task, but if you distance the admin duties from just participating, it becomes easy and pleasant.

And I cannot thank you, the members of Dollsbook, enough for making us great. (Sorry, Pizza Hut, your pizza sucks anyway. QuikTrip pizza is 1000% better!)

This is all you, Dollsbook members. We cannot exist without you.

Allrighty Then! another OG finally makes an intro! Thanks Alexa for the little history of DollsBook lesson. I am thinking someone needed to do that at some point, it seems obvious now. Helps explain to new friends what the whole dillio is. It is only right that all the OG’s should make an intro otherwise why would anyone else? Right? NO Worries though because like we keep saying this place is pretty new and we ALL are still figuring it out.

Thanks, Julia! Yeah, I needed to say it.

Ah, yes, this place really is new everyday. There have even been some new people who came directly here for the first time without even being a member of that other place. I can easily recall one from recent memory. @dee55 is one right on top of the stack, to use a programming term. He came here first, joined here first, liked what he seen and declared his devotion to Dollsbook, and won’t even consider any other place.

That, honestly, speaks volumes in my book. If more people make Dollsbook their only place to talk about their dolls without fear of being silenced, posts deleted without notice, and no communication to the member, who probably just made an innocent mistake, and telling the member that “a rule was broken, no discussion is permitted, sorry, that’s the rules,” like that other place had did to me numerous times, then we must be doing something right.

Proper system administration is two-way communication. If a user did something wrong, let that person know. Don’t withhold that from them. It’s 99.999999% possible it was an honest mistake, and just revoking that voice, without saying, “hey, is this what you intended to post? It’s kind of questionable and a possible violation. Do you want to keep the post verbatim, but delete the offending content?” That is what they did not do when Daphne arrived and I posted pictures of her. Just deleted. And when I attempted to ask why, they told me “Shut up. You posted a rule 3 violation [underage looking doll], and the ROC says they’re deleted and admins will not discuss this further,” even when I admitted that I might have made an honest mistake, just delete the pictures, and leave the text. Nope.

We won’t do that to y’all here. If you possibly violated a rule, we’ll let you know. You’re human. We’re human too. Humans make mistakes. We’ll work with you to correct it, and let your content be restored without a struggle. But if you deliberately spam, post content that is violent, graphically pornographic, or anything that is illegal, and there is obvious intent to do so, that’s where the line is drawn. Just like those two members “David Kim” and “William Blackwell” who joined last weekend posting obvious spam to our forums. I put on my Superuser suit and shown them the door.

There has to be a balance. We provide that. Us admins act like regular users most of the time. That’s the key. The other forum, well, you know. I’ve seen little interaction between the regular members and themselves, and one former admin there said (off the record, and I cannot disclose whom) that they spend most of their logged in time in the admins only forum circlejerking each other to see who gets the banhammer. He left shortly thereafter. I tried to get him here, but he declined.

We are great. But again, we cannot do this without you, the members.

Forums can become cesspools of wannabe politicians with visions of grandeur. The keeper has Been there done that. He was and maybe still isa game moder, as such was a member of a few forums that catered to the particular game he messed with and was kicked of and block for defending a fellow member who also got kicked and blocked, neither of them ever getting the chance to dispute this treatment. The keeper too had a part in a certain web site as in helping post content and mange certain other aspects, this is where my eastbrooke story began. He was the first to use the game to meld multiple images into one and even wrote a short tutorial that never got any recognition. Except when another moder copied his technique and posted a similar tutorial. All of a sudden the other moder became number one in this aspect because he was friends with one of the admins. Nonetheless, politics creeped in and the keeper fell into obscurity eventually leaving the forum. In addition, the keeper deleted all of his content and basically stopped moding all together.

Here only being a member along with like minded people again, he will add my story only to finish it, and enjoy the ramblings of all others because of what we all enjoy…
