As Lin lay there in bed, her head pounding and her limbs throbbing with pain, she tried to recall what happened that caused her to end up here. At first the only thing that came to mind was the last thing Zoey said, which in fact was nothing it was the touch of Zoey’s hand and her pointing in a direction. But what direction, and why? Lin remembered they both readied their weapons, why? Lin then, feeling the pain in her head and her limbs, becoming overwhelmed from her discomfort, passed out.

At this point in her young life Lin had no real understanding of her family’s business, only that she led a comfortable existence, wore fine clothes and never had to worry about going hungry or without a roof over her head. One thing was a bit strange, she never knew her mother as her father never talked about her other than telling Lin that she passed giving birth. Naturally at the age of twelve Lin was very curious, but she never found anything in her father belongings that eluded to her mother’s existence at all.

Lin awoke to her room being full of people, her father, a few nurses moving about with some sort of purpose, what appeared to be a doctor looking at a clipboard, and lastly a man in a police uniform standing at the doorway. Another man entered her room dressed in a suit accompanied by two females in police uniform. The two women took their place just inside the doorway, blocking any entrance from anyone, as the man in the suit approached her bedside and sat down on a stool.

Before talking to Lin, the man turned to her father and said something in Chinese that Lin could not understand, he then turned to face Lin and asked, “Where is your friend Zoey, and why did you kill her?”

Lin looked at her father with both fear and surprise, with an approving look in his eyes, he nodded as if to say everything will be fine, go ahead and tell the man in the suit what you remember. As she laid there, she started telling the man about the hike the two girls began as a training exercise. She also talked about the noises they heard and decided to follow.

The last thing Lin explained was she could not remember anything past the point when Zoey pressed her finger to Lin’s lips to silence her and pointing in a direction to move before waking in this hospital bed. The man in the suit wrote everything Lin said in a little black book he was holding. When Lin finished, the man stood, turned to her father and, again speaking in a language she did not understand, then leaving the room along with the two female officers. The male officer followed. At this point only the doctor and her father were in the room with her.

The two men turned to each other and began to speak in a whisper low enough making it very difficult for Lin to hear what was being said. The doctor left the room after speaking with her father who then came to sit down on the same stool the man in the suit sat upon. He looked at her with kind eyes and then began talking, he started with, “Your friend Zoey is missing, and presumed dead, because of the amount of blood present at the place where you were found. Additionally, with the condition you are in it is assumed that her disappearance was planned.”

Lin began to weep, but with the pain she was in she could not move either of her hands to wipe her eyes. Instead her father did this for her. He then proceeded to tell Lin what was found and how she was located.

Her father began with, “I was sitting having tea, when Liu Chan, (a high-ranking student and assistant to her father), came running into the room and frantically saying that something had happened to you and your friend. We both then followed your trail and came upon the bloody aftermath of what appeared to be an ambush. How Liu Chan came to this knowledge of your whereabouts is that he is assigned the duty of protecting you at all costs”. This was the first Lin became aware of this.

“You see,” her father continued, “I think it is time for you to learn the true nature of our family and the circumstances that dictate your utmost protection. You see my daughter there is more to life than meets the eye. There is true evil that exists outside the realm of what most consider reality. Know this as the absolute truth that both good and evil do occupy and travel throughout time and space. There are those that can travel the same path that support either side, good or evil, that are in a constant battle for supremacy of the world and all that it contains.

While our family deals in a business that, at times reveals itself as against the laws of men, our business also deals heavily in the spiritual world of battling demons. You are part of the Wei family. Our family has a long history for fighting for the good of mankind, albeit, by most appearances we deal in the goods of evil. This is because that there are Demons that have infiltrated the higher offices of man’s social structures, making it easier for them to demonize those of us who fight for the greater good.

Until this situation with your friend Zoey going missing, and your condition, I was able to keep our fight with evil quiet. If it weren’t for Liu Chan finding you our family would have been exposed to the demon class of this city. Because of this your training will become more focused and intense for the purpose of carrying on our true family business, the defeat of the demon lords that have followed us through time.

Your friend Zoey will never be found, and as for you my daughter, this is only the beginning. You are a direct descendant of Son Liu Wei, the greatest demon hunter that ever breathed. He began his training at the Shaolin Temple and was a young boy of fifteen when it was destroyed in 1732. Many historical facts of his exploits may be found in our family’s library. There you will find answers to questions you haven’t arrived at yet. What is going to happen next, is you will heal and then you will begin your studies as a demon hunter.

Back to your protection. Because you are Son Liu Wei’s descendant you are the target of a descendant of the Demon lord Son Liu defeated hundreds of years ago.  Back to what we saw, we saw at least ten body’s all cut to pieces. You were lying in a pool of blood surrounded by body parts. We could not see any sign of Zoey except her backpack and weaponry, which as yours was covered in blood. I suspect that Zoey may have been mistaken for you, as I have tried to keep your identity secret. This led us to conclude that whoever is behind this is getting closer to their goal, the destruction of the Wei lineage.”

Lin, being only a girl of twelve years listened to every word her father said, as he told her the story of how Son Liu Wei became a great sorcerer that further became famous for helping to defeat the Daityas followers of the great serpent god Vritra. Though supposedly defeated by Indra and sent to dwell beneath the sea. The Daityas stole the weapon forged to defeat their leader, the Vajra. They took the weapon back to their lair with the hope of defeating the gods once again.

However, the followers of Indra caught wind of this and Son Liu Wei being the powerful wizard he became, was contacted and conscripted to retrieve the weapon. He did and in doing so, Son Liu killed the leader of the Daityas at that time and her family. Thus, beginning a life time battle over the possession of the weapon. Which still lays in a highly secret location discovered only by solving certain puzzles hidden around the world. The location of the puzzles, also hidden, known only to the Wei family. This making Lin, the only living offspring at the time, a target for gathering this information.

When Lin was only twelve, she was the only female descendent, thought to be an easy target. This proved to be a deadly underestimation from this day forward. The girl known as Zoey was later found dismembered. And any charges against Lin were dropped as evidence pointed to the ambush performed by a rival gang. By the time Lin had turned eighteen she had two younger sisters, thanks to her father’s playfulness with the ladies, however, some of the “people” her father had contact with, did leave her wondering as to their humanity.

Nevertheless, because of her father’s age she began to take over the family business. By the time she was twenty the name Lin Chun Wei made her enemies quake in their boots. Moreover, her sisters’ reputations were not that far removed.

Lin answered her phone, saying “Tell me everything Hong.”
